Trip to Bangli

Ngaben not apply to all areas in Bali. One example Trunyan. Trunyan is a traditional village in Bali, located in Bangli. Trunyan divided into two separated by a lake. Trunyan derived from the word "Taru" and "Menyan" is a very large tree located in the area of traditional village cemetery. To get to the cemetery area, we have to cross the lake.

Death in Trunyan not burned as cremation in general. If there is someone who dies, he will get the same ritual in general such as termination of the inner iktan with family, baths, and other rituals are almost the same as most of the Bali mainland. Unique and interesting of the procession of death in the village of Trunyan is not burned corpse dirtakkan but only just above the ground after the pastor gave offerings in the graves. The bodies of such grave took with them clothes, money, and also the equipment that he used during his lifetime. The bodies are covered with fabric to the extent of the chest and around it is lined with bamboo in the local language is called "acak saji". Something unique is happening here is that although the bodies are not buried or burned, the body does not smell bad, because people have confidence that the big tree in the cemetery absorb the stench of the corpse. Another unique thing is that the funeral procession was followed by the women in the village Trunyan but only men who deliver and do all the procession.

Forerunner of the villagers did not burn or bury the corpse is, Once past the village of confusion because it appears very pungent smell, after the search was the smell that comes from a large tree known as the Taru incense, fragrant odor it sometimes to make people until cold. The idea of elders in the village, diletakanlah bodies from under the trees to neutralize the smell of the scent and the idea was successful, people no longer terganngu with a pungent aroma. The procedure for the funeral samapai still carried on today.

There are regulations, because the number of bodies buried in this cemetery should be no more than 11 bodies, which in my position here is a corpse that died a natural death and never married, there was another name for this cemetery is the Sema Wayah. In addition to this wayah Trunyan Sema also has another cemetery, where the cause of unnatural death, such as accidents, suicide, or murdered, his body will be placed in a location called Sema Bantas. As for the burying infants and small children, or people who've grown but not married, will be placed in the Sema Muda. In Scientific why not remove the stench remains, as happened in the village is still a question mark.

To achieve Trunyan Tourism Village, we can Kadisan motor boating village, Kintamani is located approximately 65 kilometers north of Denpasar. Kintamani own, we will be satisfied by serving exotic scenery. A mix of sparkle blue water of Lake Batur is the background of towering Mount Batur. Coupled with cool temperatures, making the atmosphere more beautiful.

Trunyan has five row, which is located relatively far apart. This village center is Trunyan, a village located on the eastern edge of Lake Batur. Four other is the Banjar Banjar Associate, Banjar Bunut, Banjar Mucous, and Banjar Puseh. Associate and Banjar Banjar Bunut in the south of the village and the adjacent Trunyan Karangasem regency. From the village of Banjar Bunut Trunyan to take about two hours on foot. That, too, through the trail and climb Mount Abang. Trunyan residents refer to themselves as Bali derivatives, that is, those who first fell from the sky and the land from the island of Bali. While other so-called Bali Balinese tribe who came from Java, which spread into the future kingdom of Majapahit

After boating for approximately 30 minutes from the village of Kintamani Kadisan, we will arrive at the slopes of Mount Abang sturdy towering like a fortress palace. Village of Trunyan own, we must boating along the foothills to the location of the grave brother, about ten minutes. We will arrive at a temple located at the foot of the western slopes of Mount Abang, on the shores of Lake Batur. Dalem, his name. Not far from the temple stands a wooden dock right in front of a temple gate to the location of Sema Wayah.

The wooden structure standing on the edge, we again presented two contrasting natural wonders, but fascinating. Turned to the west, across Lake Batur with small ripples in blue water, towering Mount Batur is stout with a clearly visible peak. However, it turned to the east, a large tree shaded the altar stone that exude a form of magical aroma. There are no flowers or fruit offerings like altar praying, that there are only dozens of human skulls lined up neatly.

No need to fear. Because every life will revolve in one definite direction. It is precisely this object reminds us of the end of life, which makes us stay away from all kinds of pride and arrogance.

The journey back from the village to Kadisan Trunyan, it helps us stop a moment to Toyabungkah tourist area. Tourism is a natural hot springs. This object is used by many travelers to immerse the body because they can cure diseases especially skin diseases. The water is accommodated in a small pond that is adjacent to the lake Batur. Toyabungkah including the Village area is located at the foot of Mount Batur Batur Lake Batur or on the edge of West a distance of over 6 km of kurag Kedisan village, 38 km from the city of Bangli, and 78 km from Denpasar City.

Geographically Bangli district, where the village is located Trunyan is the only area of Bali Province that has no coastline. However, the nature of its tourism potential is no less interesting for us to enjoy. In addition to area attractions Batur, which is Mount Batur and Lake Batur is located at an altitude of 900 m above sea level the air cool air temperatures during the day and cold at night, there are also other uniqueness of the ancient relics, inscriptions Trunyan. It is said that history in the year 813 Saka (891 AD), King Singhamandawa allowed the derivatives (Trunyan) to build the temple. Shrine of the seven-story building is a shrine of Lord Da Tonta.

This seven-storey temple called Pura Down Hyang. Stored inside the trusted Megalithic stone statues and sacred society as the statue of Da Tonta Trunyan. This temple is also known as Pura Pancering Keep. Every other year in this temple held a big ceremony. Precisely at Purnama Sasih Kapat. Trunyan communities celebrate by staging a sacred dance, Barong dance Brutuk and Sanghyang Dedari.

Ngaben’s Equipment

On the previous posting has been described that ngaben is not as simple as you thing because it is traditional ceremony. So there are a lot of ngaben’s equipment. Ngaben’s equipment base on someone social status. The more high someone social status there are a lot of equipments they need. Not only social status influence the ngaben ceremony but key is also about economy. If someone doesn’t have enough money to held ngaben ceremony, the family will burry the body before they have enough money to held it. But there is another solution before they can collect a lot of money that is mass ngaben. What is mass ngaben? Mass ngaben is ngaben which is hold by one group or one village. So the mass ngaben is the best solution for someone who has low economic background.
and then now we back to talk about ngaben’s equipment. For a rich people they can buy it in a special place called sangging. Sangging is someone who has a special skill making all of ngaben’s equipment. As the era had changed now people prefer to buy everyting that they need. Before long long time ago the community made all of the ngaben’s equipment at home. Of course it needed much time and a lot of cost. Might be it took a few months to finish it. So, because of that now people are busy in their jobs, they prefer to order it to the sangging.

There are many kinds of ngaben’s equipment such as bade and lembu. Lembu is the special ngaben’s equipment because only used by high caste people and the color also different like the white lembu is special for Brahmana, black lembu is for Ksatria, and for the unmarried people he has high caste so he use yellow or white lembu because people still considered that he still suci. Lembu is made from bamboo and it shape like lembu and wrap by clorfull papper. Bade is like a tower where the body is put insinde it and all of the community member carried on their shoulders to the cemetery. When they pass across road, T-juncition they have to round the bade for three times to the clock wise. They to do it because it is a custom and they belive the soul can not back home again. If ngaben ceremony using lembu, they carried of also the lembu to the cemetery and when they arrived at the cemetery the body is taken out from the bade and it is put inside the lembu. After the blessing finish, the eldest son lit the fire to burn the lembu which contain the body inside it. The bode is also burn together with the lembu. That’s why ngaben cost much money.
